Frequently Asked Questions—Grades

How do I calculate my GPA/QPA?

Why are some of my grades missing? What does an asterisk (*) mean on my transcript?

An asterisk (*) in lieu of a grade indicates that your instructor has not submitted his/her grade sheet to the Office of the Registrar. Late grades are processed as they are received and are posted nightly on myNEU. You should contact your instructor directly.

What does an incomplete (grade of I) mean? How do I make up an incomplete grade?

The period for clearing an incomplete grade is restricted to one calendar year from the last day of the term in which the course was taken. For the student’s protection, the precise arrangements for the clearance of an I grade should be specified on the Incomplete-Grade Contract. The contract is signed by the instructor and by the student at the time that the incomplete grade is assigned. A copy is kept in the office of the dean of the college in which the course is offered. An incomplete grade outstanding for twelve or more months will remain permanently and irreversibly as an incomplete on all records.

How does a withdrawal (grade of W) factor into my GPA/QPA?

The W grade indicates that you dropped the course. You will not get credit for the course, and it is not calculated into your GPA/QPA.
