Faculty Development
PROVOST GRANT PROGRAMS
A significant theme of Northeastern University’s
Academic Plan is the pursuit of excellence in interdisciplinary
fundamental and translational research and scholarship. As we seek
to extend the boundaries of knowledge through fundamental research,
Northeastern also strives to translate fundamental research into
applications that will address global and societal challenges as
well as to provide innovative experiences in our educational endeavors.
Consistent with these strategic themes, we are pleased to announce
that the Provost’s Office will fund a variety of faculty development
initiatives described below. We especially encourage applications
for all funding initiatives from diverse faculty. We expect that
nearly $635K will be available in FY ’08 for:
Instructional Development Fund:
Provides seed money to encourage new and innovative ideas designed
to improve the quality of undergraduate education. Awards support
curriculum development, integrated experiential learning, inclusion
of diversity and global perspectives in current courses or projects
that demonstrate ways to infuse diversity and global perspective
in new courses, development of learning assessment tools and strategies,
the introduction of new pedagogies, and other projects that enhance
the undergraduate academic experience.
Faculty Advancement Fund:
Provides funds to strengthen and broaden faculty capacity for teaching,
scholarship, or service through the expansion of expertise and academic
horizons to stimulate exploration of new areas and to increase visibility
in the academic community.
Faculty Leadership Development Fund:
Provides funds for activities designed to develop administrative
skills of tenured faculty to accelerate and promote the development
of administrative leadership skills.
ENHANCE Program for Tenured Faculty:
Provides funds to support new ventures in research and scholarship
by tenured faculty from all academic disciplines
for preliminary work that will stimulate exemplary scholarship or
will result in one or more proposals being submitted to extramural
funding agencies.
Research and Scholarship for Tenure-Track
Faculty:
Provides seed money to tenure-track faculty for
research that will result in a sound basis for future proposal submissions
and for support of artistic and creative scholarship activities.
