Academic Investment Plan
At Northeastern University, we are investing $75
million over five years to enhance our academic programs in three
key areas: undergraduate education, core graduate professional programs,
and centers of research excellence.
Faculty Recruitment
The cornerstone of our Academic Investment Plan is the expansion
of our faculty by 100 tenured and tenure-track professors between
FY05 and FY09. We are committed to attracting and retraining a diverse
faculty to teach our culturally diverse student body and conduct
research that advances our standing as a national research university.

Abdelal's speech on the importance of campus diversity.)
Undergraduate Education
We are the national leader in programs that link classroom
study with real-world experience, and our flagship cooperative education
program is an internationally recognized model. We are adding new
positions in majors or areas in high demand.
Centers of Research Excellence
While the new professors joining our faculty will advance
research efforts in many disciplines, four areas of existing strength
are specifically targeted for enhancement. Three of these span the
interdisciplinary sciences and engineering, namely biotechnology,
nanotechnology, and sensing and imaging. The fourth area, urban
affairs and public policy, encompasses our interdisciplinary efforts
in the social sciences and law.
Graduate Professional Programs
A graduate education is increasingly essential for success
in many careers in business, industry and medicine. Our goal is
to reinforce our position as a leader in professional education
by enhancing core graduate programs in Business, Engineering, Computer
Science, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Counseling Psychology.
