• Overseas Vote Foundation: Students or educators who will be abroad during Federal elections need to fill out the Federal Postcard Application (FPCA) to request an Absentee Ballot and/or register to vote. This will allow them to vote in any election for Federal office. Note that this process is different than the procedure to register for domestic absentee voting. • OISP-ISSI Mentoring Program
  The Office of International Study Programs (OISP) and the International Student & Scholar Institute (ISSI) is inviting prospective study abroad students to participate in a new initiative that will bring them together with Northeastern University's international students. The purpose of the program is to give future study abroad students the opportunity to hear firsthand experiences of the country in which they hope to go abroad. Read more and apply here.
• The Glimpse Foundation has two exciting opportunities for students!!
  

  1. For returned students: to contribute stories about democracy abroad to their Summer 2008 issue! As we gear up for our own presidential election, our Summer 2008 issue will explore democracy around the world. We are currently seeking submissions! We are looking for personal stories that lent your students insight into their host countries' attitudes toward democracy -- in theory or in practice.

  2. For spring 2008 students: Glimpse Correspondents Program! Glimpse, in partnership with the National Geographic Society, will be awarding $600 grants to six student correspondents, who will document their time abroad either through writing, photography or video.

• Sally Whitcher Award
  HI-USA supports the belief that one has to see the world to understand it. To this end, every semester, HI-ENEC awards two $500 travel grants to area college students who best demonstrate a commitment to educational and intercultural experiences in their travel plans. Applications for Summer/Fall 2008 travel will be accepted starting in March 2008.

• U.S. Passport Services Back to Standard Processing Time
  The Department of State announced September 7, 2007 that passport service has been restored to the standard six to eight week processing time for routine passport applications, and no more than three weeks for expedited service. In the fiscal year 2007, the Department has already issued 3.9 million more passports than in fiscal year 2006. The Department plans to expand passport facilities and continue to hire more passport specialists in order to increase production capacity and meet rising passport demand expected in coming years, as passport requirements are extended to land and sea borders.
