Professor Steven A. Morrison Awarded Distinguished Transportation Researcher

Transportation economist recognized by the Transportation Research Forum

Steven A. Morrison, Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics in Northeastern University’s College of Arts and Sciences, has been recognized by the Transportation Research Forum (TRF) as a Distinguished Transportation Researcher. The award was presented during the 2008 Annual Transportation Research Forum last month in Fort Worth, Texas.

“I am honored to have been recognized by the Transportation Research Forum,” said Morrison. “I am proud that my research has been acknowledged by my colleagues in the field of transportation. I look forward to continuing my research and furthering my work.”

The Distinguished Transportation Researcher Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding accomplishments as research scholars in the field of transportation. A committee, chaired by the TRF President, evaluates nominees based on their work. The award was first introduced in 1977 and has recognized only 24 esteemed researchers to-date.

The Transportation Research Forum is one of the nation's oldest transportation organizations. The organization and its annual forum provide an impartial meeting ground for transportation professionals to exchange timely information and ideas.

The 2008 Forum highlighted more than 75 presentations and panel discussions featuring academic researchers, government transportation specialists and industry practitioners. Topics included: corridor planning, capacity management strategies, transportation funding, energy and the environment, air cargo, railroad growth and competition, consumer gas prices, ethanol and agricultural transportation, traffic safety, hazardous material transport, opening the U.S.-Mexico border to international trucking, and the future of federal surface transportation policies.
