The Jewish Studies Program provides students the opportunity to explore the history, culture, and religion of the Jewish people.

This interdisciplinary program offers courses in the areas of:

The Jewish Studies Program offers several exciting tracks:

• Dual Major in Jewish Studies and Religion
• Jewish Studies Minor
• Social Justice, Identity, and Religion specialization within the Human Services Major

A unique aspect of our program is our Jewish Studies Module. In the spirit of Northeastern’s strong emphasis on applied learning, we have specifically designed this course to link the Jewish Studies minor to a student’s major field of study.

New course on Israel

This fall, we are lucky to have Dr. Larry Lowenthal, former director of the Boston chapter of the American Jewish Committee, teaching a class on The Evolution of Modern Israel (INT U640). The course will introduce students to an Israel rarely seen in the news: a fascinating, vibrant, talented, problematic, imperfect, free wheeling-nation of people drawn from 100 different countries—a heady amalgam of Jews, Arabs, Russians, foreign guest workers, new immigrants and Christians all struggling not only for existential survival, but for a sense of national identity that is still very much in process. The class will meet Mondays and Thursdays, 11:45-1:26 (Key # 06228).
