Step
I: Self-Assessment
Know
Yourself: What Do You Really Want?
Self-assessment is a process for gaining greater clarity about who you
are and what you want. What do you enjoy studying and doing? What do you
want from your career? What kind of work environment and conditions would
best fit your personality? What skills do you want to use in your work?
Knowing your Values, Interests, Personality and Skills
(VIPS, for short) empowers you to envision the kinds of careers or jobs
you might enjoy most. Career Services has myriad resources to help you
choose a major and a career direction.
Resources
for Self-Assessment
Individual meetings with career counseling staff.
Assessment
tools such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the Strong Interest
Inventory and SkillScan can help give you career direction. These inventories
can be taken during a seminar or one-on-one with a career counselor.
