| The Elevator Speech Create an elevator speech, also known as a working-goal statement, a positioning statement or a 60-second commercial. An elevator speech is a quick way to let people know what you are looking for, and what you have to offer. Someone who hears it should come away with a memorable sense of you and the selected accomplishments youre proud of. Answer these questions as you plan your 60-second elevator speech: What can you contribute to an employer? What are your key strengths? Which organizations have you worked for? What do you want to do next? If you are not currently working, include a brief, neutral statement about why. Example: "XYZ Corp. has recently completed its eighth round of layoffs. My whole department was included in that round, and I am now in the market for..." You will use a statement like this many times in your job search as you seek informational interviews, make connections through networking and in interviews. It is a great answer to the "tell-me-about-yourself" opener. |
