NU@Noon provides a broad range of educational and intellectual activities for retired, semi-retired and other adult participants. This alumni education series offers alumni the chance to learn and embrace the knowledge of the University’s award-winning faculty, community leaders and industry pundits.

Join us and experience the United States through a photographic artist's point of view. Professor Rantoul will present a compilation of photography from his new book, "American Series," and discuss his travels across the United States. Professor Rantoul has spent his career as an artist and a teacher and has been the head of the photography program at Northeastern University since 1981. His work is displayed in numerous public and private collections in the U.S. and abroad, including, The Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

U.S. Foreign Policy After Iraq

What will American foreign policy look like after the war in Iraq is over? This is a question that seems to be burning in everyones minds no matter what your political affiliation may be. Professor Andrew Bacevich will discuss the history of American foreign policy and the potential aftermath preceding the war in Iraq. Dr. Bacevich is a professor of International Relations and History at Boston University. He is has written several books, essays and op-ed articles related to American Diplomatic and Military History and U.S. Foreign Policy.

Something Old, Something New: Exploring New Trends in Antiques

While many of us possess an accumulation of interesting objects, we often wonder if they qualify as antiques and what they might be worth. In this presentation, Doreen Wallace, professionally active in the local antique field for over two decades, and owner of a popular and award winning antique store, will share her expertise in answering these questions. She will define in practical terms what antiques are, as well as offer an insightful retrospective of past markets. Wallace will also focus on the current antique scene and why predicting future trends are so risky. Time permitting, attendees who have brought a small object with them, may have it evaluated.

The 15 acres of The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway connects several neighborhoods and is considered to be one the cities jewels. Nancy Brennan the Executive Director of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy will be discussing the collaborative effort of the City of Boston, Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and its citizens to build this remarkable green space.

The Shield of Freedom: The U.S. Coast Guard on Cape Cod

Join U.S. Coast Guard Captain Dan Abel as he discusses one of Cape Cod's hot topics- the transition of Otis Air National Guard Base into a Department of Homeland Security Federal Law Enforcement training and staging facility. Captain Abel will go into detail about how this proposal will benefit the community and about the Coast Guard's expanding role in homeland security. Captain Abel assumed command of Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod in 2007. He previously served as Project Manager for "Rescue 21," a system replacing the Coast Guard's outdated distress notification and command, control and communications system, along with 95,000 miles of coastline.

Take an in-depth look at this controversial topic in our nation. Criminal expert James Fox will be discussing school and campus violence and the lessons learned from these events. James Alan Fox, Ph.D. is a Lipman Family Professor and has been a member of the faculty at Northeastern University for thirty years. He has published sixteen books, including "The Will to Kill: Making Sense of a Senseless Murder" and has authored several journal and magazine articles and newspaper columns focusing on murder, juvenile crime, school violence and capital punishment.
