What Do We Look For?

The applicant's academic record is the most important aspect of the admissions application. We give special consideration to applicants who have chosen to challenge themselves in honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and college-level courses.

*Please see high school students, transfer students, and international students for additional specific qualifications.

In addition to the applicant's academic record, we also consider the extent to which students have contributed to their school and greater community in a meaningful way. Personal qualities such as leadership ability, creative and innovative thinking, and resiliency are important to us.

Last year, we received more than 30,350 applications for 2,800 places in the freshman class. As a result, admission to Northeastern is selective and competitive. More than 2,500 applications were received for transfer admission. This places Northeastern among the most popular private institutions for transfer students.
