Transfer Students

Each year we welcome hundreds of transfer students into our community. As you and your student go through the enrollment process, please remember to pay tuition and housing deposits by the date referenced on the acceptance letter.

Transfer Credit
Typically, students receive transfer credit for courses that are comparable to Northeastern’s offerings and in which they have earned a grade of C or better. In order to process a student’s transfer credit, he or she may be asked to provide course descriptions, syllabi, and course catalogs from previous schools.

Students will receive an evaluation of transfer credit within several weeks of receiving their welcome packet. The evaluation will be available through the Admitted Student Portal. If a course is marked “no rule” on their transfer credit evaluation, it has not yet been evaluated by Northeastern faculty. If your student has been asked to supply a course description or syllabus, please make sure he or she has done so in order for the course to be evaluated.

Please note that:
• Depending on the academic program, the number of transferable credits that apply to a student’s major may be limited.
• In most cases, transferable credits will be applied to either core requirements or electives.
• Each of Northeastern’s colleges and schools has its own core requirements
• All students complete writing and diversity requirements prior to graduation.
• Students can transfer up to 60 semester hours of credit from a two-year college or up to 80 semester hours from a four-year college or combination of the two types of colleges.

Please contact the admissions office or read our transfer credit information for answers to your questions about transferring credits.

Housing
Housing for transfer students is not guaranteed. Housing requests are granted on a space-available, first-come, first-served basis. Transfers may be placed in University-sponsored housing at nearby locations. For information on off-campus student services, visit the housing section of this Web site.
